British unions train strategic researchers

A new course will teach British trade union officials to use strategic research in order to gain a better understanding of the companies they are dealing with. “Many workers cannot state with confidence who or where the real owners of their workplace are”, according to confederation TUC.
The TUC says that research is of growing importance to trade union campaigns: “Now more than ever, effective union initiatives and responses depend upon a comprehensive picture of the structure and flow of corporate finance and power in order to identify key pressure or leverage points necessary to win union organising campaigns”.
In collaboration with American confederation AFL-CIO, the TUC has developed a course on the use of strategic corporate research. American unions have considerable experience with this kind of research.
