Campaign for fair sportswear at Olympics

This morning, the Play Fair 2008 campaign for fair sportswear at the Olympics started in Amsterdam. The initiators want merchandising for the games in Beijing (2008), Vancouver (Winter 2010) and London (2012) to be produced in a socially responsible way. Last year, abuses came to light at four Chinese factories producing items with the Olympic logo.
Play Fair 2008 is organised by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC), and the International Textile Garment and Leather Workers Federation (ITGLWF). Through bluetooth, text and e-mail messages, people can help send an alternative Olympic flame to Beijing.
Christa de Bruin (CCC): “While producing Olympic products, workers are breaking Olympic records. They work hard, for almost nothing, under poor labour conditions. Join us in calling on the IOC to end the maltreatment of workers in their own chain of production”.
