Angry with their lay-off conditions, workers at French plants of Sony, 3M and Caterpillar have held their bosses hostage overnight. In a sondage choc, Le Parisien found that 45% of the French find such actions acceptable whereas 50% find them unacceptable. In another poll, Paris Match found that 30% disapprove of bossnapping, 63% disapprove but find it understandable that workers engage in such actions, and only 7% condemn them.
However, President Nicolas Sarkozy (photo), who is said to fear a new ‘1968’, has said that workers must respect the law. “There have been actions of a certain number of bosses that are inacceptable, but the large majority of the CEO’s are victims of the crisis and are behaving extremely well”.
