Forget dismissal by text message: workers at the Vestas wind turbine factory near Newport, UK received pizza boxes with a letter under each slice: “As a result of your participation in the industrial action and refusal to give up that action, you leave this company with no choice other than to terminate your contract of employment with immediate effect.”
Workers have occupied the Vestas plant to protest against plans to close it, which will result in the loss of 625 jobs. They are supported by the socialist Workers’ Climate Action, which campaigns for a ‘just transition’ to sustainable energy.
