German union Ver.di is going to apply pressure on Deutsche Telekom to allow collective bargaining at its American subsidiary T-Mobile. For that purpose, Ver.di has formed an alliance with the Communications Workers of America (CWA).
According to CWA, European corporations are using America as an ‘offshore source of cheap labour’. T-Mobile would account for 25% of Deutsche Telekom’s annual revenue.
T-Mobile says its workers do not need union representation, because it is offering an ‘employee-friendly work atmosphere’, but CWA accuses the company of intimidating workers who try to organise.
