Germany: ‘no place for small and militant union’

A labour court in Berlin has confirmed a ruling denying the Freie ArbeiterInnen Union (FAU) the right to call for a boycott against the Babylon cinema, FAU has announced. The court would have argued that contrary to other countries, there is no place for ‘small and militant unions’ in German law. The FAU would lack formal recognition as a trade union and would therefore not be entitled to represent workers in labour conflicts.
On 20 Februay, 600 people participated in a march in Berlin for trade union rights.
