The American National Labor Relations Board has filed a complaint against an ambulance service that has fired an employee because she criticized her boss on Facebook. Legislation protects workers who discuss working conditions or unionization. According to the board, it makes no difference whether they do so at the water cooler or on a social network site.
Dawnmarie Souza was unhappy that her supervisor would not let a representative of the Teamsters union assist her in responding to a customer’s complaint about her work. She then mocked him on Facebook, ‘using several vulgarities to ridicule him’. Her post drew supportive responses from co-workers.
