The newest Statistics Netherlands data show that union members are aging faster than the general population, with over 65’s making up 14% of the membership. On the other hand, there has been a modest growth in union membership among under-25’s, the first growth in this age group 1993.
In response to the publication of these data, TNO has analysed health and safety data. It found that workers in dangerous professions (police, transportation, construction) and professions with high psychological pressure (education) are more likely to be union members.
