‘Unions work for young and flex workers as well’

It is clear that the union movement needs to do more to organise young and flex workers. Does this mean that unions only represent the interests of older workers with permanent jobs? Some commentators claim this is indeed the case, but most Dutch workers disagree. A survey commissioned by RTL Nieuws found that a large majority of Dutch employees are convinced that unions not only represent the interests of insiders, but also those of young workers and workers with fixed-time contracts.

Only 1 in 6 respondents think unions are as visible on the work floor as they should be. 88% think unions should exert more influence on politics.
